TopBox October 2012

Hi All,

I finally received my very first TopBox today, a day late thanks to Canada Post (oh well). I signed up in the beginning of July and have been on the wait-list all this time. If you have been on the wait-list for a long time, make sure you have submitted your payment information, I'm pretty sure this moves people ahead. All of this waiting I think made me really excited for this box and also created high expectations for it, which may not have been a good thing.

I like the packaging and the size of the box, as it fits into my mailbox, unlike GlossyBox. When I open the box a Lush-like scent rushes out and I'm looking at a purple scrunched tissue. lol :) Let's see what I got:

1. Aveda Invati "thicker, fuller hair is yours with 97% naturally derived Invati solutions for thinning hair. Full size: $27 (200ml)"hhmm I think I know where the smell came from.. I got a tiny shampoo and conditioner 10ml each. I'm very curious to try as I've been using Nioxin recently and enjoy it, however the sample size is probably only going to last me like 2 times :S not enough for a verdict on this product. On the other side of the info card there is also a coupon: "Bring this card to an Aveda salon and receive a complimentary Invati botanical therapy hair treatment with your next hair cut or shampoo style." Not sure I have an Aveda salon in my neck of the woods...

2. MaskerAide Hydrating Facial Sheet Masks, Full Size: $4.99 (1 mask/ 23g) which is what I got. Looks interesting, definitely curious to try. One of my favourite Canadian blogger has a review on these here.

3. Stila Eyeshadow Palette, Full Size: $50 (14g) I got 10 sample shadows, I might be able to get 2 uses out of each. This seems like a sample you can get for free from Sephora or Shoppers :S just saying. However, I've never tried Stila eye shadows, so this is a nice introduction.

4. Vasanti Cosmetics Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator "Dramatically improves your skin's texture to reveal softer, brighter ad younger looking skin!" Full Size: $34 (120ml) mine is 20g. It says Made in Canada on the back which is always a +, doesn't have a strong scent - I like that, kinda small but I'm excited to test this product out.

So that't the box, no extras this time =(
Overall, not a bad box but from previous reviews I expected more WOW than I got.. I will stick around for a few more months and see how it goes. Especially, since October GlossyBox is going to be my last one. They raised the price to $21 and I was sceptical at $15, so definitely not going to pay $21. My very first beauty box was from Loose Button, I got 2 of them and then cancelled because they raised their subscription price and changed  the service a little bit. I saw some reviews and IMPO I did the right thing, for me. The products that people got I either already had or tried or wasn't interested in. I'm willing to pay $10-15 for a beauty box but not $20+.

Till next time!

  1. Great review! I agree, Glossybox is insane to raise their prices when their service already left a lot to be desired. I am so glad to say I no longer subscribe to them! haha.

    1. Yup, especially for us fellow students price increase but no quality increase doesn't work well with the budget!
Thanks so much for stoping by :)

  2. Nice review! I'm with you with slightly disappointed but still sticking around. The link for the MaskerAide review didn't work!

I tried mine on Monday and hopefully will post my review later today. :)

    1. oh no! Thanks for letting me know! I think I fixed it :)

  3. It seems like quite a bit of people are disappointed with this. That's the main reason I haven't caved in to getting any subscription box, I'm afraid of the disappointment! Lol.

    1. Hi Chrissy, thanks for stopping by!
If you're worried about being disappointed I would suggest Beauty Army box subscription, you get to choose 6 samples and it's a reasonable $12/mo ( Unfortunately it's not available in Canada, otherwise I would definitely subscribe. It is available in US thou.
